The symptoms were unmistakable, and the medicine was effective in relieving them. I do not know what other conclusion to draw. It has been my assumption that none of us have arrived here in possession of ochimizu, however, so the only explanation I can imagine is that this is the doing of COMPASS.
[A pause.]
Although I was not aware at the time, as I had not met his friend before...I believe you should know, sir, that the one affected is Ivan Karelin.

CONTACT: rei.kurosawa@compass.net MESSAGE:I didn't want to wake you if you were sleeping, sorry for the early text. I know things are too crazy to start things now, but when we're able to I'd like to begin the training we discussed.
[What is sleep haha. threeish days is enough time to get comfortable and jump into training right?? She'd had her cry on and spent the most of the days sleeping off and on so she feels... more or less normal again. Or as normal as she can get.]
[As if he's gotten much sleep knowing that Chizuru and Heisuke are in COMPASS's hands. As if he gets enough rest ever anyway.]
I believe I can leave things here to one of the others for a bit, if you would prefer to start today. There may be quite a bit going on, but as that is often the case here, waiting for a calmer time may take longer than we'd like.
[And doing something he can make actual progress in might be good for him, after getting his nose smashed in one failure after another this week.]
[ never attempt to learn how to work a pocketwatch without proper instruction. This is what happens. This is especially what happens when Kazama attempts to hit the "back" button on the thing because nope, nope, nope. Why would he want to talk to Saitou? Waste of his time... ]
[Had you almost forgotten you ever sent this, Kazama?
What a shame.
After far too long catching up on lost sleep (and not really being able to move, given Souji's tendency to turn into a heavy heat-seeking lump in bed, Saitou finally tumbles out of bed (very literally, thanks again to Souji's sleeping habits), and after a few minutes to haul himself upright and try to wake up mentally, he finally retrieves his watch and takes a seat at the end of his bed again to check and see if anyone's been trying to get ahold of him.
And freezes when he sees that name in his contact list, because the mere thought of Kazama is enough to make his blood run cold.
There's no way he could be here, could he?
It's a few more minutes before he finally stops staring and slowly, with his one good hand, types out a reply.]
[Saitou just stares at that message for a long time.
Even if he should feel vindicated - he can't help but feel horrible about this, at the same time. That Hijikata, of all people, came back to him and admitted to being wrong.
It's hard to think about Hijikata being humbled like that, when Hijikata is the one whose conviction is what keeps giving the rest of them the strength to hold their heads up high. Or should be, at least.]
It is behind us now, sir.
[Because he doesn't know what else to say. He can't say that it's not a big deal, to forget about it - that's a lie and that's not right. It's not as though all his anger about this didn't happen, and that this wasn't important - very important.
But the last thing on his mind right now is "I told you so."]
[ Carefully easing himself into the kitchen, Oz paid close attention to the treasure in his arms and less so to man who now shared the room with him. After checking (once again) to make sure she was still with him, he breathed a sigh of relief as she rubbed her head against his arm, purring. ]
That's right Dinah. Just a hold on a bit longer. We're almost there!
[ raising his glance towards Saitou, Oz flashed a smile ]
Oh, hello mister! [ he recognized you from a few weeks ago, although he never really quite caught his name ] Do you mind if I feed my cat some milk?
[ because it's milk (even if it is the powdered kind) and then straight into the bath for Dinah. After who knows how long out in the jungle and slinking around that blood bath yesterday, she's barely fit company even for Oz. ]
[Without Chizuru, someone's got to handle the cooking, and so Saitou's found himself spending quite a bit more time around the kitchens trying to figure out what he can throw at the rest of the Shinsengumi to keep them all moving. He's always liked cooking well enough, to be fair, but - well, the ingredients here aren't really to his liking, and none of the usual seasonings and things he'd prefer to be using are around, and even after Ivan taught him how to open cans, those things still seem more like a game of Russian roulette with one's tastebuds than anything, and -
